Bangalore: Improving road connectivity now seems to be only quick-fix solution to the pressing problem of connectivity to the upcoming international airport at Devanahalli. Now, the government has zeroed in on the outer ring road stretches to make them free of signals.

How does it work?
Excavating the earth takes just a day, laying concrete base will take another two days. Next will be lowering the precast elements, which will take two days. Following that, each block will be interlocked. Then earth nailing will be carried out by putting weld mesh to put a check on earth from caving in. Later, earth will be reinforced and concrete panelling for embankment will be carried out. Earth will northern and eastern approaches to the airport.
Making a presentation on the new infrastructure policy for the state at the FKCCI on Friday, principal secretary (infrastructure) V P Baligar said decongesting the new international airport road would be the administration’s priority. For this, the PPP model had been envisaged to transform the outer ring road-BAIL as an expressway. Load-bearing capacity of these underpasses is a whopping 120 tonnes. In other words, a battlefield tanker can pass on these structures
Dual carriageway — each underpass will be of 15 metres wide that can allow two buses to pass through simultaneously. All underpasses will be uni-directional and of two types. Arch segment will be used where height of underpass needed is 9 metres
Solar lighting, vents for rainwater and also pedestrian walkway will be the features of the elements

TRAFFIC SITUATION
BBMP is doing service roads till Hebbal from Mehkri Circle. By December 15, these roads will be ready and project sites will be barricaded. While a single lane will be opened for traffic movement on main Hebbal Road, service road will take some portion of the traffic. Excavation work at Balabrooie will take two days, so traffic will be diverted near the Highgrounds police station
