Your back-breaking, bumpy ride may soon end, as Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagar Palike has finally taken up filling up potholes on all major roads in the city. Repair works which began on November 13 will continue for one more week.

After incessant rains in the last three months, almost all roads in the city were in a pathetic condition. The Governor himself had directed the Palike to undertake filling of potholes immediately.
However, as the rains continued the Palike could not take up the works. But Palike Commissioner S Subramanya assured the public that the Palike would start the work, as soon as the rains stopped. And the Palike has acted accordingly.
The Engineering division of the Palike has identified a number of potholes to be filled up in each zone. As many as 29,148 potholes and 3,928 road cuttings have been identified in all eight zones.
Palike has issued tenders on the basis of the number of potholes in each division.
Repair works began with filling up potholes of Rajajinagar road, Nagarabavi main road, Khoday Circle road on Tuesday night.
They are taken up late in the night, as there will be limited movement of vehicles. The work is going on at 18th Cross Malleswaram, Banaswadi road, Kingston road, Jayamahal main road, KH Road, Yelahanka New Town 6th phase, Old Post office road, Sahakarnagar Canara and Karnataka Bank Road and other main roads.
Work will be extended to roads in Yelahanka new town, Talakaveri layout, on roads behind BDA complex, AECS layout on Friday.
Commissioner Subramanya has been inspecting repair works regularly. On Wednesday night, he along with senior officers inspected works taken up on main roads till 1 am. He said, “In a week’s time potholes and road cuttings will be filled up in the city. Division-wise tenders have been issued for repair works. The total expenditure for filling up potholeS will come close to Rs 10 crore”.
The Palike is also taking up resurfacing of all arterial and sub-arterial roads in old BMP area, main roads in new areas within a month. Subramanya said, “The Palike has floated tenders to asphalt nearly 1,000 kms of road network. Each ward in the old-BMP area will get around Rs 80 lakh. As much as Rs 250 crore has been allocated for roads in new zones. The resurfacing work will begin shortly.’
