Centre okays 3 underpasses
DH News Service, Bangalore:
With this, the number of infrastructure projects sanctioned under the JNNURM to the City has gone up to 18 with an estimated investment of Rs 1021.87 crore.

In a big boost to the City infrastructure, the Centre on Friday, approved three new underpasses — Kadirenahalli-Ring Road junction, Puttenahalli-Ring Road junction and at C N R Rao Circle — under the ongoing Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

With this, the number of infrastructure projects sanctioned under the JNNURM to the City has gone up to 18 with an estimated investment of Rs 1021.87 crore. The total cost of new projects sanctioned is Rs 80.06 crore and they will be implemented by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in the current fiscal. “We will take up these projects immediately,” BBMP officials told Deccan Herald.

In addition, the Union Urban Development Department has decided to release the second installment of around Rs 46 crore to the BBMP to implement four ongoing projects under the JNNURM — storm water drain project, two underpass and IT roads.

Installment blocked
The Centre had blocked the second installment as the State government had failed to fulfil one of the mandatory reforms to put an elected body (BBMP council) and ward sabhas in place. The BBMP has, at last managed to persuade the Centre to release the money. The break up of cost of three new underpasses are: Rs 27.60 crore for Kadirenahalli-Ring Road junction, Rs 24.78 crore for Puttenahalli-Ring Road junction and Rs 27.68 crore for C N R Circle, according to a BBMP release.

Over and above, the BBMP has submitted proposals for four more projects at an estimated cost of Rs 450 crore. It is now waiting for its approval.
