BANGALORE: Nine trees which were translocated to Manekshaw Parade Ground from M G Road during May and June are now flowering. They have stood tall to the test of changing winds.
The health of the trees makes one assume that the trees have sprung there and that this is not the new location.
This is first step initiated by BBMP where five Tabubia Rosea and four Pride of India trees were translocated. The trunk of the trees have been wrapped with straw ropes and are no longer held firm with the help of iron bars.
Speaking to Express, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Deputy Conservator of Forests S Shekar said all the nine trees were doing fine.
He pointed that straw ropes were wrapped around the trunks so as to ensure that the moisture content is restored in the trees. ‘‘These ropes were twined around trunks during the time of translocation. They will be removed within a week or two,’’ he said.
He added that these trees were now flowering and sprouting which is a good sign. ‘‘This shows that the trees are healthy.
The trees will be periodically monitored and regularly watered. After the ropes are removed, they will be left on their own to bloom,’’ he said.
As the next step, the BBMP will translocate trees from Sheshadri Road and Palace Road to the nearby office premises.
Earlier a few trees were translocated by the Taj West End Group, from Race Course Road to their hotel premises. These trees are also flowering now.
‘‘We did not provide any aid to the hotel. They have carried out the task on their own. We hope that many more organisations do the same in the near future,’’ said Shekar.
