BANGALORE: Faced with public fury over the rain-related woes, the BBMP has announced its initiatives-- from road widening to cleaning up of storm water drains in different parts of the City.
To ease traffic congestion, widening of five prime roads -- Palace Road, Sheshadri Road, Race Course Road, Kasturba Road and Bellary Road, will be taken up on priority basis.
Acquisition of property coming in the way of widening has been handed over to the civic agency, said an official release here.
Widening of the 4.96-km stretch of Bellary Road will make traffic smoother for commuters to Devanahalli International Airport. The civic agency has also constituted sub-divisions to reach out to people.
In the Dasarahalli area three subdivisions have been formed - Dasarahalli, Nelagadanahalli and Laggerahalli.
A sum of Rs 54.50 crore has been allocated for it.
Mahadevapura has been divided into five sub-divisions -- Mahadevapura, Whitefield, Marathahalli, Krishna R aja Puram and Ramamurthy Nagar. A total of Rs 54.50 crore has been allocated to improve the sub-divisions.
For improving four sub-divisions of Bommanahalli area -- Bommanahalli, Belandur, Arakere and Kononkunte--Rs 54.50 crore has been allocated.
Rs 54.50 crore has been allocated for the maintenance of the Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Kengeri, Nagarbhavi and Subramanyapura. The Byatarayanapura zone gets Rs 54.50 crore to solve the drinking water problems.
Nearly 110 new borewells have been drilled and 186 civic are works are at different stages, states the BBMP.
Walls measuring 25X2 metres, of Nayandanahalli valley connecting Vrishabhavathi valley will also be built at a cost of Rs 222.85 lakh.
