Bangalore: In addition to special reservation counters and reduction in ticket price, senior citizens will now have ‘happy journey’ through South Western Railway from Bangalore City railway station.
The Railways are installing heavy-duty elevators, which will cater exclusively for senior citizens and physically challenged persons. Two elevators with the carrying capacity of three tonnes are being readied at Platform no. 1, 7 and 8. They are expected to be operational in the next three months.
“The idea is to install elevators at all the platforms in the station. On a pilot project, three goods-cum-passenger elevators will be installed. These heavy-duty elevators will ferry a minimum of 28 people along with their luggage,’’ said SWR divisional railway manager, Mahesh Mangal.
“Presently, the SWR has taken up upgradation work in all the stations in Bangalore. Nearly 100 touch-screen LCD boards will be installed at these stations once the on-going renovation work is
over,’’ he added.
