Bangalore: It’s official. The airport expressway planned by the BMRDA to provide connectivity to Devanahalli International Airport will not be ready till 2009.
Speaking to The Times Of India, PWD secretary Sudhir Krishna said the expressway project is still in its initial stages. “The Rs-1,000 crore project will take more time than stipulated. We have finalised the route and issued a preliminary notification. We are yet to finalise the consultants and after that tendering process will begin. We are hopeful that the project may be completed over 20 months. So essentially, the Bellary Road will be the only option till the expressway is completed,’’ he said.
The PWD has written to the Centre for sanctioning viability gap funding for acquiring land for the project, but is yet to get a reply. On the other hand, Sudhir said the NHAI has been requested to upgrade NH-7 to handle airport traffic by constructing more underpasses, interchanges and ROBs.
