BANGALORE: Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Sunday translocated a 40- year old Copper Pod (Pelta Forum sp.) tree from Palace Road to the neighbouring Directorate of Collegiate Education premises.

Trees are being translocated following the proposal to widen four primary City roads- Race Course Road, Sheshadri Road, Palace Road and Nrupathunga Road.

Speaking to City Express, BBMP DCF, S Shekhar said that this is the first tree which has been translocated by the BBMP independently while the trees on MG Road had been translocated by Metro.

‘‘The cost for translocating each tree is between Rs 25,000 - Rs 30,000, which includes digging of pit, crane and JCB charges,’’ he said.

‘‘We will translocate five trees on October 6-7, the reason for the delay is due to heavy traffic on these roads during weekdays. In the coming days, 10 trees from Bellary Road, near Hebbal, will be translocated to UAS campus,’’ he said.
