BANGALORE: State government is all set to ban use of mobile phones for children below 16 years from Oct 5 and an official notification would be issued in this regard within the next few days.
After a high level meeting Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti told reporters here on Saturday that the draft rules for implementing the ban were ready and the decision had been taken in the interest of children’s health and to eliminate the nuisance of mobile phones in educational institutions under rule 133 of Karnataka Education Bill.
The ban would be implemented for students from first standard to II PUC.
Heads of educational institutions and teachers would be empowered to confiscate the mobiles if any student was found using them on the school campus.
Parents too would be requested not to allow their children to use the mobiles by citing medical study reports.
