46 ROADS TO BE WIDENED
Nod for 1000-cr project

The State Cabinet on Friday approved a Rs 1000-crore project of the Public Works Department to widen 46 roads in the City.

The decision was taken based on the recommendations of a committee headed by the chief minister’s advisor, Mr K C Reddy. The committee had recommended that certain roads in the city needed to be decongested.

The Finance Department too has decided to approve the project, which has no been referred to in the budget.

While Rs 865.30 crore will be spent to widen a stretch of 901.64 kilometres, Rs 131.63 crore will be spent on widening 109.72 kilometres.

Three roads — from Bannerghatta Road - Outer Ring Road to Meenakshi Temple, from Airport Road - Kundlahalli Cross to SS Ashram and Sarjapur Road - Outer Ring Road to Railway Cross — will be developed with private participation. About 50 per cent of the funds required to develop the seven most congested roads (about 91 kms) will be given by private parties.
