As work on the upcoming international airport in Devanahalli enters the last leg, the airport designers have found inspiration in Bangalore’s much-cherished landmark, Lalbagh.

According to a Bangalore International Airport Limited spokesperson, the “inspiration” for the design and layout of outlets in the airport’s travel retail area has come from the flowers and leaves of Lalbagh gardens. At present, works inside the terminal building, including duty-free, arrival and departure areas are in progress.
With just about seven months left for the opening of the airport, work on the site is now approximately 85 per cent complete.

The month of August has also signalled the completion of work on the taxiway. Activities in progress include installation of the structural supports for glass elevators, installation of brackets for mounting the special airport system equipment on the columns, installation of automatic doors, fire-alarm detectors and light fittings.

The car park area in front of the terminal building is nearing completion, while the final top layer concreting is in progress.

Apart from the taxiway, installation of PAPI (Precision Approach Path Indicator) lights at both ends of the runway is now complete. Along the taxiway, Air Field Lighting (AFL) cabling works are nearing completion and installation of taxiway lights is in progress.
