B’lore on alert ahead of festivals

BANGALORE: The city police are on high alert following a union home ministry directive in view of major festivals of Janmashtami and Ganesh Chathurthi.

Sources said that the ministry has asked the states to step up surveillance and sensitise police forces to maintain extra vigil at religious places, markets and shopping malls.

Though general intelligence alerts are issued on such occasions, Monday’s alert has come in the wake of the serial bomb blasts in Hyderabad on Aug 25 which claimed over forty lives
