Parks to be developed on tank beds of Balayanekere and Deepanjalinagarkere

MLA wants BBMP to clear encroachments on the tank beds

BANGALORE: To avoid traffic congestion and ensure hassle-free movement of people near the Vijayanagar bus stand, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will construct a pedestrian subway across the Vijayanagar Main Road.

The Binnypet MLA V. Somanna on Friday inaugurated work on a subway to be built at a cost of Rs. 75 lakh. “The subway will be of great help as people find it very difficult to cross the road, especially during peak hours,” said Mr. Somanna, who had submitted a proposal to the BBMP for the subway.

The MLA, who inspected several areas in his constituency on Friday, directed the BBMP Deputy Commissioner (South) V. Yeshwanth to ensure that the pedestrian subway connecting the Vijayanagar Central bus stand to Nagarbhavi Main road be upgraded. He also wanted the officials to draw out a plan to clear traffic congestion at the Water Tank junction.
Parks

The BBMP will develop two parks on the tank beds of Balayanekere and Deepanjalinagarkere. The Forest Department recently handed more than nine acres of land on these tank beds to the BBMP. Mr. Somanna had requested the BBMP to clear encroachments on these tank beds and ensure that the land is put to public use by developing parks there. A school is running on the Balayanekere land for the past several years.

He also inspected work on a park in BCC Layout and directed the officials to complete work at the earliest. Accompanied by Mr. Yeshwanth and other officials from the BBMP, Bangalore Water Supply Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and BESCOM, the MLA inspected Amarjyothinagar, Marenahalli, Chandra Layout, Attiguppe and surrounding areas.

He ordered the eviction of pavement vendors in the areas and also directed BESCOM officials to shift transformers and install single poles in their place.
Inspection

BBMP Administrator Dilip Rau will inspect areas coming under Rajajeshwarinagar zone that have been recently subsumed with the BMP.

The inspection follows complaints from residents of Nagarbhavi 2nd Stage and BDA Layout about the bad roads in the area. People can meet the administrator during his inspection.
