BANGALORE: Nearly 85 percent of the work on the new Bangalore international airport, which will in all probability be commissioned by next April, has been completed.

While all civil works at the terminal building have been completed and only the finishing works were currently in progress, the runway and the taxiway have also been completed.

According to an official release, the main works at the terminal building have been completed, works inside the building like arrival and departure areas are in progress. Activities that are in progress include installation of the structural support for glass elevators, the installation of the brackets mounting the special airport system equipment on columns, installation of automatic doors, the fire alarm detectors, and the light fittings.

The car park area in front of the terminal building is nearing completion. The final top layer concreting is now progress. The landscaping works within this area has commenced, it said.

On the airside works, the latest completed work on the airside includes the taxiway. Installation of precision approach path indicator lights at both ends of the runway has now been completed.

Work at the isolation bay is in progress. Air field lighting cabling works along the taxiway are nearing completion and the installation of the taxiway lights is now in progress. The elevator installation works in the ATC tower and the ATC block are also in progress, stated the release.
