RTI allegations:BBMP clarifies

Reacting to allegations made by RTI study centre, BBMP Joint Commissioner (Works) Harsha Gupta said remodelling of drains has been taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission at a cost of Rs 643 crore.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike has said that funds are not misused in works related to remodelling of storm water drains.

Reacting to allegations made by RTI study centre, BBMP Joint Commissioner (Works) Harsha Gupta said remodelling of drains has been taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission at a cost of Rs 643 crore.

Till date as much as of Rs 140 crore has been spent on the work.

Out of that only Rs 22.94 crore has been spent on de-silting drains not Rs 140 crore as alleged by RTI study centre.

Moreover funds for contractors has been released only after detailed scrutiny by BBMP officers and third party inspection, Mr Harsha Gupta said.

The joint commissioner also said that BBMP engineers have maintained all documents including trip sheets, vehicle logistics and photographs pertaining to silt removal.
