The BWSSB has been asked to bring out a feasibility report on whether waste water flowing down Challaghatta Valley in Bangalore can be treated to make it potable.

The BWSSB has been asked to bring out a feasibility report on whether waste water flowing down Challaghatta Valley in Bangalore can be treated to make it potable.
Speaking to reporters here, Health Minister R Ashok, also the in-charge minister for Bangalore Urban district, said according to an initial survey, 300 MLD of water can be utilised for drinking purposes. The estimated cost of the treatment plant is Rs 600 crore. Mr Ashok said the report will be submitted within 15 days.
He also presided over a meeting of deputy commissioners of all five zones of the BBMP. Mr Ashok said Cauvery water will be supplied to 52 wards of the erstwhile seven CMCs in the next one and a half months. The scheme to supply 100 MLD of Cauvery water to the CMC is under the last stage of completion, he said.
He said Rs 50 crore will be sanctioned for each zone for construction of roads, drains and installation of lighting facilities.
Mr Ashok said he has directed BWSSB to conduct a survey of all the public borewells in the BBMP jurisdiction and regulate their use.
He said BWSSB has been directed to ensure that every new house has a rain water harvesting plan before providing water connection.
