BANGALORE: Residents of Veerasandra and Hebbagodi villages off Hosur road have expressed the fear that they would lose their livelihood if the government went ahead with acquiring their land for

A local farmer, V T Ramachandrappa, told this website’s newspaperthat the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) had notified about 189 acres of land comprising the entire villages of Veerasandra and Hebbagodi. He said that most of the farmers would lose their home and farmland and that the government compensation was inadequate.

Another farmer, M Mariyappa said that this has led to distress selling of land in the affected villages.

‘‘The farmers are selling the land to developers for whatever they are offered. And the developers lobby with the government and get the land denotified,’’ he said.

Last month, KIADB denotified about 86 acres of land.

The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) has also contributed to the farmers’ misery. The Authority has also notified land for peripheral ring road (PRR). The farmers would stage protest before chief minister’s official residence, said Rajendra Babu.
