More roads to Bangalore South

More roads to Bangalore South
This part of the city will soon have better connectivity, thanks to some new road projects

There is a need to augment road connectivity in Bangalore South with the meteoric growth seen here, especially J P Nagar, Jayanagar, Banashankari, Bannerghatta Road and Kanakapura Road that have expanded far beyond anyone's expectations. The situation is so bad that there are traffic snarls at peak hours. However, the recent announcement by the chief minister that there are plans to have underpasses at Puttenhalli Junction on the Outer Ring Road and another at Kadirenhalli Junction on the Outer Ring Road provides a solution.
The proposed underpass at Puttenhalli Junction would separate Puttenhalli traffic from the Banerghatta Road-Kanakapura Road traffic, making this junction less congested and allowing free flow of traffic on this route. The underpass at Kadirenahalli Junction on Outer Ring Road would separate the traffic on Outer Ring Road and Kadirenhalli Road, decongesting traffic here.
There's also good news for those taking the Hosur Road to reach Electronic City. With the drive along the four-lane expresssway from the Central Silk Board to Hosur Gate near Attibele becoming difficult after the IT boom, there's hope in the form of an elevated expressway that's coming up between the Silk Board Junction and Electronic city. The 9-km expressway by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will be ready to be thrown open by July next year. The expressway crosses junctions near Begur, Bommanahalli, Kudlu, Huskur gate and Konena Agrahara. There won't be entry points from these areas as the entry would only be from Silk Board Junction with exit only at Electronic City. There are also plans to convert the existing 10-lane highway for nontoll users. This expressway is expected to go above the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure corridor (BMIC).
The BMIC road itself is another major development along Mysore Road. Apart from these, there are roads being planned by the Bangalore Metropolitan Region (BMR). These are Satellite Town Ring Roads (STRRs) that connect towns around Bangalore city to each other and to the International Airport. So peripheral towns like Kanakapura, Attibele and Sarjapur will get more connectivity, providing a boost to developments in these areas in Bangalore South. The BMR is also planning Town Ring Roads around important towns in Bangalore Rural district like Anekal and Kanakapura that will bring in further connectivity along the Kanakapur route.
The BDA is also planning to construct a Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) around Bangalore city to decongest the city traffic. This construction is proposed in two phases. In the first phase, the road will go from Tumkur Road to Hosur Road crossing Bellary Road, Old Madras Road, Varthur Road and Sarjapur Road. In the second phase, it will go from Hosur Road to Tumkur Road crossing Kanakapura Road, Mysore Road and Magadi Road.
All these developments spell good news to commuters and investors alike.
