BANGALORE: On Tuesday, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy laid foundation stone for four underbridges in the city.

The locations are; Puttenhalli junction on Outer Ring Road (ORR), Kadirenhalli junction on ORR, Hennur-Banaswadi road junction on ORR and on CNR Rao Junction opposite Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

Kumaraswamy said the city needed more road infrastructure and the officials should not waste time in formulating the projects.

“Sometimes the officials take two years merely to prepare a project. I want officials to prepare new projects in two months,” he said Deputy CM B S Yediyurappa complimented Kumaraswamy for taking steps to ease the traffic woes on the city roads.

However, he said, the coalition government was not just keen on developing Bangalore alone but of the entire State.

He said that in next two months air connectivity would be established with Hassan, Shimoga, Bijapur and Mysore.

Health Minister R Ashok spoke on the occasion and said that civic agencies must pay more attention to the infrastructural needs of west and north Bangalore as south was already well developed.

He said that more underbridges at JP Nagar junction and Chennamma Circle on ORR would be taken up in next two weeks.

All the new zones of BBMP would be provided with Cauvery water in two months, he assured.

Palike administrator Dilip Rau, commissioner K Jairaj, BDA commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda, BWSSB chairman N C Muniyappa and MLA Abdul Azeez were present.

The new underbridges “Puttenhalli Junction on ORR This would separate Jayanagar - Puttenhalli traffic from Bannerghatta Road

- Kanakapura Road traffic. The cost is Rs 22.87 crore. The relief from congestion is expected to be 39 per cent.

“Kadirenhalli Junction on ORR Banashankari - Kadirenhalli road intersects with ORR here and the underpass would separate the traffic on ORR and Kadirenhalli Road.

The cost is Rs 28.88 crore and congestion relief is expected to be 46.89 per cent.

-Hennur - Banaswadi Road junction on ORR The heavy traffic on ORR almost makes it impossible for Hennur - Banasawadi road traffic to cross the junction.

The underpass separates the ORR traffic from that on Hennur - Banasawadi Road. The cost is Rs 25.49 crore and the congestion relief is expected to be 76.64 per cent.

-CNR Rao Junction near IISc Traffic from Mekhri Circle on Bellary Road side and Maramma Circle on Malleswaram side converge on Tumkur Road and the congestion is huge.

The underpass provides separate routes towards Mekhri Circle and Maramma Circle from Tumkur Road.

The cost of the project is Rs 27.14 crore and congestion relief is expected to be 57.5 per cent.
