BMRCL gets nod to measure NGEF land

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday permitted the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to measure the New Government Electric Factory (NGEF) lands on Old Madras Road where it plans to set up a Metro terminal.

The court was dealing with an interlocutory application (IA) by the State Government seeking a portion of the NGEF Grounds for setting up the terminal.

The Government would have to take the permission of the court as liquidation proceedings of NGEF is being heard by the court. As the lands form part of the company’s assets and since the High Court has appointed an official liquidator to monitor its winding up, any party, including the Government, would have to seek the court’s nod for any scheme or project relating to the company and its assets, including grant of land.

It was on March 28, 2007 that the State first filed an application seeking permission to set up a Metro terminal on NGEF land at Byappanahalli.

Advocate-General, Uday Holla, appeared on behalf of the State and urged the court to permit BMRCL to go ahead with the project for setting up the terminal. Justice Rammohan Reddy, who is hearing the NGEF liquidation proceedings, permitted the measurement of NGEF Grounds by BMRTL and adjourned further hearing on the case.
Land use

The court on Tuesday observed that nine of the 52 petitioners from Sadashivanagar who had moved the court for quashing of notices issued to them by the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for alleged violations of zoning regulations had applied for change in the land use.

The court delisted (delinked) the nine petitions from the other petitions and indicated that it would dispose of the petitions.
