BANGALORE: The city police personnel, who have been provided with the BlackBerry devices, registered 800 cases in the last 10 days.

The new device seems to help the cops to book the offenders on the spot and also enter case details into the database.

As part of B-Trac programme, BlackBerry devices were given to traffic police personnel in Cubbon Park Police station limits.

While, some cops feel it takes more time to enter details in the new devise, many others opine it has certainly made their job easier.

This apart, it also helps to trace repeat offenders as the cops can access to the database.

Over 45 offences including ‘No Entry’, ‘Jumping Signal’, ‘Lane maintenance’ along with the penalty amount are already fed to the device. So, once the cop enters the nature of offence, the penalty amount will be automatically displayed on the device.

ACP (Traffic) Narasimiah said at present there are 10 devices used by Cubbon police limits.

“We have registered more than 800 cases in the last 10 days. Even though the number of cases seem to be less compared to the regular method, it is important to note that these many cases have been booked by 10 devices,” he said.

He further said they were getting 280 more devices in couple of days.

“This will help cops register more cases,” he added.
