BBMP drain work throws traffic off gear
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Motorist were caught unawares and were forced to follow the new routes, which led to chaos and confusion on Airport Road, Hosur Road (towards Vellara Junction) and Magrath Road.

Motorists had a tough time on Friday thanks to frequent traffic jams following the City traffic police’s decision to divert traffic in and around Victoria Road and Palmgrove Road without any prior notice.

Motorist were caught unawares and were forced to follow the new routes, which led to chaos and confusion on Airport Road, Hosur Road (towards Vellara Junction) and Magrath Road.

Result: Traffic was at a snail’s pace on these roads for several hours.

The diversion was necessitated as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike had taken up work on drainage at the Palmgrove junction.

The traffic police had an equally tough time as they had to face a volley of questions from the angry motorists.
The chaos proved too much for even them that the police cancelled the diversions.

The police will further announce the revised diversions on Saturday.

The following diversions came into effect from Friday:

* Vehicles from RM Road allowed only up to Hosmat junction through Richmond Road, to proceed to D’Souza junction via Hosmat junction.

* Movement of all types of vehicles from Hosmat junction to Palmgrove Circle banned.

* Vehicles wanting to take a right turn at Johnson Market could go to Hosmat junction via Ashirvad junction, Residency Road and Magrath Road.

* Vehicles, from Viveknagar to CMP, could reach destination through Mother Teresa Road, Campbell Circle, Johnson Market and Hosur Lashkar Road.
