BANGALORE: The long wait for an intercity express between Bangalore and Ernakulam is finally over. The Railway Ministry, on a month-long experimental basis, will run a day train between Bangalore and Ernakulam via Coimbatore from Sunday.
The Bangalore-Coimbatore intercity train number 02677 which leaves Bangalore at 6.15 am reaches Coimbatore at 12.30 pm and will further continue to Ernakulam. The day train will reach Ernakulam at 5.45 pm after passing through Palakkad, Thrissur and Alwaye enroute. The Ernakulam- Bangalore train (02678) will leave Ernakulam at 9.15 am to reach Coimbatore at 2 pm and Bangalore at 9.10 pm.
The day train will retain the same timings as that of the Bangalore- Coimbatore intercity.
The day-train has one AC 3-tier sleeper coach, eight sleeper coaches, two second class sitting coaches, five general second class, two luggage cum break van and a pantry coach.
The Bangalore-Ernakulam day train will be made a regular service if found viable, Railway Ministry sources said.

Is this train going to be sustained further? I see Reservation Suspended status from July 5th onwards. Hope they dont stop this route....
This train service is totally an ridiculous move by SR. There are only two sleeper coaches and remaining are all Sleeper coaches. On weekends and sometimes even on working days it is difficult to get reservation in Sleeper class also!! Also why people have to pay for extra charge for sleeper while travelling during day time. This is an grave injustice to the people of Coimbatore,Erode and Salem District. They have to pay for sleeper coach reservation for travelling for 5-6 hours durung day time. Better they can run the special train which was running through KR puram(starting at 5-15 PM evening) which hadfull sleeper coaches.
