M’lore-B’lore train service to be delayed
DH News Service, Mangalore:
The re-start of Mangalore-Bangalore train service may take some more time, though South Western Railways General Manager Praveen Kumar said that the objective of the Railways is to start the train serivce “as quickly as possible.”
Speaking to Deccan Herald just before his departure to Sakleshpur by the special inspection train at Kankanady railway station here on Monday, Mr Praveen Kumar opined that certain restrictions imposed by Commissioner for Railway Safety (CRS) P K Sen during his track inspection on April 11 and 12, 2007, may limit the movement of freight trains.
Restrictions
According to Mr Sen’s report, no goods train should be allowed between Subramanya and Sakleshpur when a passenger train is moving in the said section, Mr Kumar said.
“It takes two-and-a-half to three hours for a passenger train to reach Sakleshpur from Subramanya (and vice versa),” Mr Kumar said and added that it was a big restriction for the goods trains as a number of goods trains are running on the route.
Safety aspect
Mr Kumar also said that the SWR will urge the Railway Board to negotiate with the Commissioner for Railway Safety (CRS) P K Sen to relax certain restrictions to run the passenger train service between Mangalore and Sakleshpur. “I can’t give you a firm date just now. We have to get green signal from Railway Board also,” he said.
HMRDC CEO Sarala Balagopal and SWR Chief Administrative Officer Richardson Asir among others accompanied the general manager.
