Project update: BETL - Work on first span soon

Work on first span soon

Work on the first span (the concrete road stretch between two piers) of the elevated expressway is beginning. Each span is 34 metres long and consists of eight segments, each segment weighing about 100 tonnes. The casting of the segments is set to start in the casting yards that are now ready. The launching gantry, which will put these segments together and then
fit them on to the piers, is expected to be assembled over the next few weeks (the gantry parts are coming from China).
An official of the National Highways Authority of India said the first span is targeted to be in place by end of May.
Work on service roads, drain erection and 6-laning of the main road is nearing completion. The asphalting of the road connecting Attibele and Bommasandra to Sarjapur Road, which would help to divert heavy vehicles away from Hosur Road and ease congestion during the construction of the expressway, could happen soon.
PWD secretary Sudhir Krishna said the project will be given high priority. But keep your fingers crossed on this.
Stage of work
Service roads: Of the 10 km to be done, 9 km completed and opened to traffic. Remaining 1 km to be completed this month.
Erection of drains: 17 km done. 3 km more to be done.
6-laning of main road: 16.5 km done. 3.5 km more to be done.
Elevated expressway: 250 piles (foundations for pillars) done. Total is over 1,500.
