Official reviews progress of road asphalting works

Bangalore: Commissioner of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike K. Jairaj, on Wednesday reviewed the progress of road asphalting works in several zones in the city.

He held a review meeting with the zonal chief engineers concerned and directed them to ensure that the works met the required standards.

According to a press release, asphalting works have been taken up in 39 wards. Of the asphalting of roads of 150 km length taken up, 70 km were completed by January 30. The asphalting of the remaining 80 km will be completed by February-end.

Devraj, south zone chief engineer, said that in his zone, under package two, road asphalting for Rs. 3.98 crore had been taken up.

The release said that asphalting work was being carried out simultaneously in eight areas of the zone.

In the west zone, 41 asphalting works were in progress, of which 10 (29 km of roads) would be completed by mid-March. Similarly, under package two, about 150 km of roads were being asphalted in various wards. Already 55 km of roads had been asphalted.

The release said that over the next two months, 400 km of road asphalting works would be completed in different wards.

In an operation headed by Vijaya Kumar Biradar, Medical Officer of Health, Yeswanthpur, on Wednesday, six unauthorised fish stalls on Yeshwanthpur Railway Parallel Road were removed and all articles seized.

According to a press release, the drive would be taken up periodically to check the mushrooming of unauthorised fish stalls.

The release said that 15 stray dogs were caught by the BBMP personnel near the railway station, the press release added.
