Come Monday, the IT-City will catch the road towards development, literally. The Public Works Department has lined up 39 road projects to cover 883 km across the Bangalore Metropolitan Region. The project is worth Rs 683.5 crore and is likely to be completed by March 2008.

Inaugurating the roads project on Friday, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said, “the project will put an end to apprehensions over the slow pace of infrastructure development and connectivity problems.”

“In fact, the State government has plans to provide good quality roads, dedicated bus lane (186 km) for plying BMTC buses, grade separators and increasing the fleet of Volvo buses too.”

“Overloaded trucks, high density and frequent plying of vehicles has affected the quality of roads in the district and the State Highways.”

“The PWD has identified 39 roads, that need immediate attention as they are like lifeline of the City’s economy. The project will extend to roads in the Greater Bangalore area too,” asserted Minister for Health R Ashok.

Elaborating on the BMRDA and Public Works Department plans to spruce up the road infrastructure in the City, PWD Minister H D Revanna said, “The project involves upgradation of 39 PWD roads in and around Bangalore, which are crucial for economic growth as they provide connectivity to IT and other industries.”

“This project will be part of the larger plan of integrated development of road network, which includes a pair of Ring Roads, eight Town ring roads, 12 radial roads and an expressway to the new international airport at Devanahalli.”
