The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) Board on Friday gave the go- ahead for starting civil works for the Metro Rail project, besides awarding the tenders for implementing the work.

The Board, which held a meeting in Bangalore, cleared a Rs 110-crore tender for constructing pillars and a viaduct (over which the train passes) for the ‘Reach 1’ - a 7-km stretch between Kanteerava Stadium and Byappanahalli - of the project. The tender has been awarded to Nava Yuga Construction Private Limited, official sources said.

Sources said the work is likely to be taken up simultaneously at MG Road and Byappanahalli in 15 days’ time. The contractor would require a week’s time to mobilise men and materials, they said. A piece of defence land off Old Madras Road has been given to the contractor to stock his equipment, source said. The government has already issued the final notification for acquiring 72 properties on this stretch, except for the 42 on CMH Road.
