BANGALORE: Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), the agency that is executing the Bangalore Metro Rail project, will soon invite “esteemed citizens” of the City to give suggestions on the aesthetics and architecture of the Metro rail stations, according to BMRCL Managing Director V Madhu.
Speaking to this website's newspaper, he said that the company would be inviting eminent people to give their ideas on how the stations should be designed.
However, no names of such people have come up and the list of people have not been decided as yet, he said. Soil tests are being done in various parts of the City for the first phase of the rail track, which will run extend 7 km from Byappanahalli to Kanteerava Stadium. About 60 properties along this stretch have been notified for acquistion.
Madhu said that a report about land to be acquired along this route has already been submitted to the Central Government. The properties are likely to become Government land by the end of December.
Meanwhile, the report by P S S Thomas Committee on the rehabilitation packages that will be offered to people who lose their land to the project, is also expected to be tabled in early January.
Actual construction will begin soon. Madhu said that six consortia have been shortlisted for consultation on the viaducts. The names will be finalised by January 19. The general consultants will also start responding by January 20 and will be finalised in the consecutive months.
BMRCL has been given permission to use eight acres of defence land near Indiranagar for use as a casting yard. It will be used at the time of casting and concretising pillars and other support systems required when the construction for the project takes off.Citizens have a say in Metro Rail aesthetics
