BANGALORE: The often traumatic traffic woes of the city might go down, if major plans of transportation organisations to set up consolidated transport hubs is finally implemented.

Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), have begun to acquire land near all the major proposed metro rail stations in the city.

Chief Traffic Manager (Commercial) of BMTC, Vishwanath, said that Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) would provide land at Peenya, Mysore road and South End circle for the proposed hubs.

“BMTC will buy 10 acres of land belonging to New Government Electrical Factory (NGEF),” he added.

BMTC Chief Traffic Manager (Operation), Dastagir Sheriff, said that once the construction of the bus stations was completed, they would decide on the number of buses to be operated.

Chief Civil Engineer of KSRTC, Jagadeesh Chandra, said that they would construct integrated bus stations on the lines of Kempegowda Bus Station. “Both KSRTC and BMTC buses will be operated from these stations”, he added.

Managing Director of BMRCL, V Madhu, said that 100 acres of defence land near Peenya would be acquired, of which 10 acres would be given to KSRTC and BMTC for the construction of a hub.

The land in the south of the City would not be sufficient, so BMRCL will share the transportation services with the BMTC, he said.

The hubs will integrate various services in the City and help to reduce traffic. Access to various services, be it BMTC, KSRTC or the Metro Rail, will be enhanced by these hubs.BMTC, KSRTC to buy land near Metro stations
