BANGALORE: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will set aside Rs. 5 crore in each of the three zones for upgrading arterial roads that are not included in any of the road projects taken up by the civic body this year.
Asphalting and reconditioning of these "missing bits of arterial roads" would be completed before the onset of monsoon.
A decision to this effect was taken at a review meeting convened by BMP Commissioner K. Jairaj here on Saturday.
He directed the engineers to start the tendering process for these roads by December 26 and issue work orders by January 25.
He warned the officials to ensure that all major roads, being developed under various projects, were completed by December 31.
The zonal chief engineers would be responsible for completing ongoing ward works by January 31, he said.
Mr. Jairaj asked the Joint Director, Karnataka Land Army Corporation (KLAC), to furnish details on December 27 about all civil works, including asphalting of roads, entrusted to the organisation.
Demolition
BMP personnel in coordination with the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) on Saturday demolished 14 RCC columns put up by the management of High Gate Hotel on Church Street here.
The hotel owner had deviated from the sanctioned plan and despite several notices had not bothered to get the deviations rectified, stated a press release here.
The deviated portion was brought down under the provisions of Section 462 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (KMC) Act, the release said.
Similarly, the basement of Spencer's building on M.G. Road was cleared as it was being illegally used for commercial purposes. The Assistant Executive Engineer of Shantinagar supervised the operation.
