Misty weather is here to stay

Misty weather is here to stay
The Times of India

Bangalore: Too lazy to go for morning walks? You are not to be blamed for burrowing deep into your blanket as it’s biting cold with temperatures dipping to 14 degrees. Here comes the chilly winter season. Apart from cold it’s also the mist that puts many off their walks. Mist clears only after 7.30 am or so by which time most would be getting ready for work.
The conditions that have prevailed over the past three days will continue into January, says weatherman. In fact, further dip in temperatures is also likely.
The mist, combined with low temperature, can act as an irritant for some, says Dr Nagendra Prasad, allergist, Bangalore Allergy Centre. “Exposure to the combination acts as an irritant in the upper respiratory tract. This may result in a stuffy nose, sneezing, running nose and cough.” The cure is steam inhalation. Even a healthy person with good immunity can end up with symptoms, he says, adding, it’s safer to avoid walking at that time.
Then how do you get your daily quota of exercise? Shift the cycle. Wait until 8.30 am when the mist clears completely. The time between 8.30-10.30 am in winter is quite ideal for a walk. But if you can’t afford the luxury, here are some suggestions:
You could still exercise at home. For one, you could use the treadmill for 20-30 minutes. The other option is yoga. If there’s a staircase around, you can climb up and down the stairs for a few minutes.
