BMP to build 10,000 houses for slum dwellers in city

BANGALORE: The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will prepare a detailed project report by December 31 to construct more than 10,000 houses for slum dwellers at a cost of Rs. 200 crore.

Under the first phase of this project, to be taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission, 1,000 houses will be constructed in the next year.

BMP Commissioner K. Jairaj, who had a meeting with the Commissioners of Karnataka Housing Board and Slum Clearance Board and Director of KUIDFC on Thursday, said the consultants had been asked to prepare the project report by next month.

The project, to be executed with active participation of private partners, will be based on similar schemes undertaken in Mumbai, Sholapur and Jaipur.
