Bangalore International Airport Limited has completed around 42 per cent of construction work of the upcoming international airport at Devanahalli. Construction on the airport site has commenced 17 months ago, according to a press note from BIAL.
Nearly 23 per cent of the roof elements at the terminal building has been complete, while installation of cable trays is in progress in the basement. At the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower, construction work is nearing completion. Work on the base pavement layer of the 4,000-metre runway commenced during November. The month also saw the commencement of work on the final top pavement concrete layer at the airport’s apron area.
Manufacturing and procurement of special airport system equipment including Flight Information Display System (FIDS) and Common User Terminal Equipment (CUTE) has been complete, while manufacturing of passenger boarding bridges and baggage handling system equipment are nearing completion.
The greenfield airport is expected to start operation by April, 2008.
