Former chief minister and leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Dharam Singh on Monday dedicated to the public the rejuvenated Yediyur Lake and Park.

Civic agencies like the BDA, BWSSB need to work in co-ordination and the Commissioner needs to have full power over them, he said. Also, at the elected representatives level, the mayor and the chiefs of the various standing committees must deliberate and have a plan on the development of the city, he said.

Even as the State government has issued a draft notification on the formation of Greater Bangalore, he reiterated the call for a metropolitan authority for Bangalore.

The authority should be on the lines of those available in cities like Delhi and Kolkata, he said.

A metropolitan authority will ensure world class infrastructure facilities for a city like Bangalore, he said. Charging the coalition government of not taking up enough development works in the City, Mr Singh said that during his tenure as the CM he had tried to bring in an alternative to the octroi system so that some funds would be available to the BMP.

Elections

Mr Dharam Singh also called for elections on time to the various urban local bodies and said that the State government must honour the Supreme Court’s verdict in this regard.

The Congress legislators have already made an appeal to the State Election Commissioner in this regard, he said.

The Kadamba park developed in the Adugodi Police quarters limits, and that at Vinayaka Layout in Manjunatha Nagar was also inaugurated by the BMP on Monday.
