BBaanng gaalloorree:: With just over 16 months left for the Bangalore International Airport in Devanahalli to begin operations, the construction work at the site is progressing at a brisk pace.

BIAL officials said the airport will be opened for commercial operations though some buildings require redesigning.

At the terminal building, 18 per cent of roof elements have been completed, while masonry, plastering, plumbing and sanitation work is being carried out at the basement and first and second floors.

Similarly, work on the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower and technical block is progressing well. At the 4,000-5 metre runway and taxiway, the base layer (wet mix macadam) is being laid at a swift pace.

The structural concreting works on the sewage treatment plant has also begun, while erection of the 66kv switchyard is nearing completion.

Earthworks and pavement works for the main access road and the secondary access roads is also in full swing.

Manufacturing of the passenger boarding bridges, equipment for baggage handling system, inline hold baggage screen, the x-ray, public address system, UPS equipment, CCTV, fire alarm system, access control system and burglar alarm system, elevators and escalators forthe terminal building is also progressing well indicating the Rs 1,930-crore project will be completed on schedule.
