BANGALORE: The Electromagnetic Display (ED) Board depicting environmental parameters will soon find places in other parts of the City too.
On Sunday, Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology C Chennigappa inaugurated the first such display board at the Anil Kumble Circle. The ED Board has been built by GAIL India Ltd, spending Rs 18 lakh.
Chennigappa called for the active public participation to tackle the increasing pollution levels in City.
H C Sharat Chandra, Chairman of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), said that Kormangala and Indiranagar are next possible places which have been identified to place display boards, besides other prominent places across Bangalore.
“Many private companies have been seeking our co-operation to install display boards. Apparently, the Government is thinking of involving other civic agencies to display their messages on the boards,” Chairman of KSPCB, Dr H C Sharatchandra said.
He added: “Talks are under process, where private companies will solely build and operate these display boards, with 60 per cent advertisements allowing civic agencies to sprawl messages for the common mass.”
Sharatchandra said that the board, installed for the first time in the country, would give information on temperature, humidity and changing weather, besides displaying the presence of suspended particulate matter, oxides of sulphur and nitrogen and carbon monoxide in the air.
The data would be updated regularly by KSPCB.
