BANGALORE: There are no takers for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) Park-and-Ride service that was announced as part of Chief Minister’s 10-point programme to decongest traffic in the city.

The service was started two months ago. As there were no buses between 6 am and 7 pm in all the bus depots, BMTC planned to provide space for commuters’ vehicles.

Under this service, commuters can park their vehicles inside the depot premises and board the bus from the adjacent bus stand. Parking space will be available between 6 am and 7 pm.

BMTC will charge Rs 100 for two-wheelers and Rs 200 for four-wheelers per month.

“The service has been started on a trial basis and depending on the response, it will be extended to other depots,” a senior BMTC official said.

According to Somashekar V K, co-chairman of BMTC Commuter Advisory and Facilitation Committee, not many are aware of the facility.

The BMTC is planning to operate 500 buses exclusive for peak hour service (PHS), three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon.
