National carrier Indian on Thursday launched a direct non-stop A320 flight from Bangalore to Maldivian capital Male. The flight (IC 965/966) will operate five days a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

From Bangalore, the flight will depart at 10.30 am and reach Male at 12 noon (local time).

The return flight will leave Male at 12.50 pm and reach Bangalore at 3.20 pm. The introductory fare is Rs 10,000 from Bangalore to Male and back.


The new link will help in expanding the scope of health tourism between India and Maldives, said Mr Vishwapati Trivedi, Chairman and Managing Director - Indian Airlines Limited.

He said that the flight’s schedule would also ensure connectivity of passengers from other metros in the country.

Mr Trivedi said the carrier would soon start operating 70-seater jets, connecting metros with smaller towns.

At present, Indian operates daily flights between Thiruvananthapuram and Male.

Before flagging off the flight, Union Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said that the new flight would better ties between India and Maldives, that had been a strong supporter of India at the United Nations.

Ms Anita Khurana, Director (Commercial) - IAL, said Indian would soon come up with a series of medical tourism packages.
