Bamboo farm to be park

Bamboo farm to be park
The Times of India

Bangalore: The Bangalore Development Authority has switched to damage-control mode.
Having destroyed a part of an ecologically rich bamboo grove in Bangalore recently, the BDA has sought to make amends by offering to retain the rest of the farm as a bio-diversity park.
It could probably name the park after retired forest secretary A C Lakshmana, who had nurtured 100 varieties of exotic bamboo and cane at his one-and-a-half acre farm near Bangalore University.
The BDA plans to attach another 1.5 acre of vacant land to the remainder of the grove.
“The Authority has decided to preserve the remaining part of the bamboo enclave. It has been proposed to convert another 1.5 acre of adjacent land into a park or a nursery,” said district forest officer D Venkatesh, who is on deputation with the BDA at present.
