Police Commissioner bans crackers above 125 decibel

Bangalore: "Atom bombs", "Lakshmi patakis", "Belluli patakis", "Nelagundu" and similar fire crackers have been banned this Deepavali.

A press release from the Police Commissioner's office said on Wednesday that purchase, possession, sale and use of these crackers in any part of the city is prohibited till 10 p.m. on October 25.

Bursting crackers after 10 p.m. and before 6 a.m. and lighting rockets in congested residential areas and areas where thatched huts are located has been banned. Crackers that generate noise level exceeding 125 decibel are prohibited.

No crackers can be burst 100 metres circumference of hospitals, educational institutions, courts and religious places, the release said.

Those who violate the order could be prosecuted and the entire stock of crackers and explosives seized.

Those who sell crackers are prohibited from bursting them 75 metres from their selling place and if the order is violated, their licences could be revoked for five years.
