The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) hopes to complete its masterplan for Greater Bangalore in September - projecting a futuristic ‘Bangalore of 2030’. BDA also plans to announce its new 50,000-sites layout in November.
Speaking to reporters after the launch of Urban Forest programme of BDA at Anjanapura township on Thursday, BDA Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda said the masterplan will “regulate the development of Bangalore in a more balanced way”.
“Of the 1,300 sq km of BDA area, we have developed an area of 500 sq km. We will be opening another 200 acres for development soon, while 500 acres will be used as green cover,” Mr Gowda said. The 50,000-sites layout will actually be “a cluster of layouts that will be developed one by one”. He, however, refused to divulge the location.
BDA will also develop budget housing on 500 acres, where houses will be provided for low income groups at subsidised rates of Rs four-five lakh. The programme will be undertaken on a Public Private Partnership model, he said.
Preliminary notification for land acquisition for the construction of a 117-km peripheral ring road has already been issued, he added.
The BDA is acquiring 2,900 acres of land for the peripheral road, that will provide access to all BDA layouts on the outskirts of Bangalore. The project has been taken up at a cost of Rs 1,700 crore.
