Even as Bangalore city is turning into a concrete jungle, its outskirts promise to flaunt a thick green canopy.

Even as Bangalore city is turning into a concrete jungle, its outskirts promise to flaunt a thick green canopy.

The Bangalore Development Authority and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation jointly launched the Urban Forest afforestation programme on Thursday, that aims at planting 15,000 tree saplings across all new layouts of BDA. The programme was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.

Based on the objective of planting ten trees in place of each tree felled, 5,000 tree saplings will be planted in Anjanapura Layout. The afforestation programme will compensate for the loss of trees caused due to the Bangalore Metro project of BMRC and infrastructure and layout projects of BDA.

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that with this afforestation programme, Bangalore can regain its reputation as a Garden City. He advised the BDA to develop huge parks like Lalbagh and Cubbon Park in all its new layouts.

Aka Lalbagh

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has said that the government will develop parks on the lines of Cubbon Park and Lalbagh, in 100-acre land in the outskirts of the City. Saplings of different species would be planted in the new parks, he said.
