Bangalore: The road corridor for the proposed 734 km of satellite towns ring road (STRR), intermediate ring road (IRR), radial roads and five satellite townships around Bangalore city will be frozen within four months.
Implementing agency Bangalore Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (BMRDA) made a presentation to chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday. They announced that Secon Private Ltd, Bangalore, has been appointed as consultants for the project after a national tender.
The guidelines for freezing the road corridor are as follows:
• Retain existing network of roads as far as possible
• Modifications to have proper road geometrics
• Bypass major settlements/villages
• Preserve lakes and tanks
• Avoid alignment through forest areas as far as possible
• Avoid cutting of existing trees as far as possible
Kumaraswamy, addressing the gathering, said farmers’ welfare has to be kept in mind. In an indirect reference to the BMIC controversy, he said: “Farmers should get economic gain, proper compensation. This project should not get embroiled in controversies, but must have development in mind.’’ He directed officials to ensure that STRR, IRR, radial roads and townships projects do not drag for 10-15 years. “It should all be done within three years,’’ he stated.
The STRR will connect Gudemarnahalli near Solur (Magadi), Dobbespet, Doddaballapur, Devanahalli, Sulibele, Hoskote, Sarjapur, Attibele, Anekal, Tattikere, Kanakapura, Ramanagaram and Magadi. IRR (188 km) will be beyond BDA’s proposed peripheral ring road (110 km), connecting Tattekere, Harohalli, Bidadi, Tippagondanahalli, Nelamangala, Devanahalli, Hoskote and Sarjapur.
Radial roads will connect outer ring road, BDA peripheral road, the IRR and STRR. Ring roads for Ramanagaram, Kanakapura, Anekal, Hoskote, Devanahalli, Doddaballapur, Nelamangala and Magadi will be built and the STRR, IRR will connect these ring roads. The five townships will be at Bidadi, Ramanagaram, Sathanur, Solur and Nandagudi.
