Infrastructure Index: Elevated Expressway

ELEVATED EXPRESSWAY 23 MONTHS TO GO Concrete proof: Drain works on
The Times of India

The work on the Hosur Road elevated expressway, from the Silk Board junction to Electronics City, has begun in earnest. Among the first tasks that the contractor consortium of Soma Enterprise, Nagarjuna Constructions and Maytas Infra has undertaken is to properly concrete the sides of the broad drains running along both sides of the road and then cover these drains. Work on about 600 metres of the drain has begun. Soma executive Murugan says about 385 metres of drain work is nearing completion.

TOI also saw a digger levelling the road along the side of the drain work. The idea is that, once the middle of the Hosur Road is barricaded for the elevated exp re s sw ay work, there will be enough space for vehicles on both sides. If necessary, vehicles would be able to ply even on the drain. Some nine test piles are also being done along the Hosur Road stretch to understand soil parameters, including the soil load carrying capacity. A concrete mixing plant has been commissioned near Attibele. Here, pre-cast materials will be prepared.

Murugan said meetings had been held with the Electronics City Industries Association and Infosys and both had offered to extend any support required during the construction period. He said the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has written to the Bangalore police to divert commercial vehicles from Hosur Road during the construction period, so that there would be less disruption of traffic. We have also asked the police to deploy a few policemen and traffic marshals along the road to ensure there’s no disruption. “We will pay for these facilities,” Murugan said.

The 9-km elevated toll expressway will have 4 lanes, and the road below will have 6. There will also be two-lane service roads on either side, two underpasses, four pedestrian underpasses and eight bus bays.
