The five daughters of Mysore Maharaja, the late Jayachamrajendra Wodeyar. have reportedly agreed to surrender their entire 140 acres of land in the Palace Grounds to the State government.

According to highly-placed government sources, the daughters and the government have worked out a compromise formula as per which the daughters will reportedly surrender their share of 140 acres of land in the Palace Grounds in return of 50 per cent of built up area there.

The chief minister is likely to call for an all-party meeting this week to amend the Bangalore Palace Transfer and Acquisition Act 1996. “He may also take a special Cabinet decision on the issue after the all-party meeting. Whatever be the case, the proposal will have to be filed before the Supreme Court,” said the official source.

Stakeholder

As per the compromise, the government will hold 50 per cent stake in the property.

The daughters and the government would mutually share the revenue generated from the proposed international trade centre, exhibition hall and a world class sports complex built and named after the late Maharajah.

“Out of the 140 acres, 70 acres of land will be left for lung space,” he added. The process is likely to take three to four months time. “After the amendment is passed, the daughters and the government would jointly float global tenders to invite private parties to come forward for the construction of the proposed projects,” said the source.

The late Mysore Maharajah is survived by one son Mr Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar and five daughters Ms Meenakashi Devi, Ms Kamakshi Devi, Ms Indrakshi and Ms Vishalakshi Devi. The eldest sister Ms Gayathri Devi is no more. She is represented by her husband, son and two daughters in the family matters.

Of the 450-acre Palace Grounds, the sisters were given a share of 28 acres each as per the family agreement in 1984. About 45 acres of land is said to be with the Chamaraju Group, while the remaining portion of the land is with Mr Wodeyar.
