The State Cabinet on Monday decided to appoint Justice B C Patel, retired chief justice of Delhi High Court, to probe the land allotment controversy surrounding the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) Project.

Briefing reporters, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti said the judicial commission would probe all issues, including alleged irregularities in land allotment to Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise, the promoters of BMIC Project, from 1997 onwards.

He also said the terms and conditions and the time frame for the judicial commission are yet to be worked out.

The Cabinet decision comes four days after Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy announced on the floor of the Assembly that the government would order a judicial probe into the controversial aspects of the BMIC Project.

The Chief Minister, who was keen on a legislation to takeover the project, had to drop the proposal following pressure from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The government has already filed a review petition regarding the project before the Supreme Court.
