Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday held a closed-door meeting with the department heads to discuss the Palace Grounds issue.
According to a source, the government is likely to approach the Karnataka High Court to vacate the stay on the Bangalore Palace (Acquisition and Transfer) Act 1996.
“They will later pursue the matter with the Supreme Court where the case has been pending now for nine years,” said the source.
“The government will have to be careful in dealing with the issue because the matter is subjudice. But it is likely to move the court immediately,” he added.
During the meeting issues of ownership and management of the Palace Grounds were also discussed. “The property has 21 gates and is open to all kinds of events. The chief minister wanted an update on the issues regarding the Palace Grounds,” said the source. After the 1996 Act, the heirs of erstwhile Mysore Maharaja the late Jayachamrajendra Wodeyar challenged it in the Karnataka High Court.
They later filed a special leave petition before the Supreme Court.
The Court gave a status quo order and granted
permission to the petitioners to continue with
some temporary activities there.
