BANGALORE: The government on Tuesday approved the proposal of the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) to revise the 50-year-old advertisement rules. With this the central parts of city will be spared of the visual blight.

The new rules, which will come into effect from this financial year, ban hoardings on Kumarakrupa Road, Rajbhavan Road, Ambedkar Veedhi, Post Office Road, Chalukya Circle, Maharani College Road, KR Circle, Cubbon Park environs, Nrupatunga Road and Palace Road.

New rules also divide the city into four zones A, B, C and D. While the zone A is hoarding free as above, zone D has no height restrictions. Further the new rules have revised the rate of advertisement tax and the levy ranges from Rs 50 - Rs 500 per square metre.

BMP commissioner K Jairaj said the new rules would bring hoardings under greater control of BMP while raising the tax demand. The decisions of BMP council, which got the government nod, include a flyover at Yeshwantpur junction, Malleswaram grade separator, grade separator at Minerva Circle and flyover at South End circle.

However Jairaj said these infrastructure works would be taken up only after consulting Metro Rail authority to ensure the alignment.
