Crackdown on auto meters: 311 booked

Bangalore: The legal metrology department has cracked down on 311 autorickshaws for having faulty meters and demanding excess fare.

While 165 drivers were booked on Wednesday, the day the department launched its drive, 146 were booked on Thursday.

"Five teams of officials examined 2,993 autorickshaws at different parts of the City and found 311 faulty meters," said R K Raju, controller, legal metrology department. Cases were booked against the drivers and the owners.

He also warned that more raids would be conducted in the coming days.

He requested the public to inform the department if they come across any problems in the autorickshaw or taxi meters on 22260554/22265644.

Meanwhile, the department also conducted raids at the airport taxi stand and booked a taxi for demanding excess waiting charges.

The driver was demanding Rs 30 per hour as waiting charges instead of the prescribed amount of Rs 20. VTN
